In the case of occasional over-sized garbage, HEPCA requests, that if possible, it be taken out when or right before the collection truck passes by. If that is not possible, we request that it be placed right next to the designated HEPCA bins; and secured, as not to be carried away by wind or spread by feral cats or rodents. We ask that this waste not contain any
organic material that may attract flies, rodents, or feral animals.

If an establishment regularly disposes of over-sized garbage, we ask that they contact us to arrange for specific pick-up procedures.

Good move, let's hope it will work and that all participate ! What should we do about any oversized garbage (big boxes, plastic water containers or a damaged chair?) can we leave it next to the garbage container?

Thank you for the info Chris, but surely you will need to educate the residents first. What type of people have so little regard for their surroundings that they throw rubbish out of the window or drop it in the street in the first place. If they had any respect for themselves or where they live they would bag up their rubbish and find a more environmentally-friendly way of disposing of it. At last, with your scheme they won't have any excuse and it will be interesting to see how it develops and how people respond. I wish you all the best with your clean up and hope the Hurghada people appreciate it. It will be a pleasure to walk the side streets on my next visit. Well done HEPCA.

I agree to each word that Elke has written. I am fed up from living among the garbage and rubble and would support this campaign by buying a garbage bin if this service would be offered in the area where I live. There are worse areas than Hadaba – but for sure this area was chosen because of tourism. What tourists might not see can stay littered and disgusting.

I am sure if all the smart people participate in reporting violations and trying to be truely hopeful and constructive in their critisism, then hadaba shall remain clean and will become an example to follow. thank you for improving our lives and the lives of our children. Great achievment for Hadaba and thanks to HEPCA! But I agree with Britta - why only in Hadaba? If I could get also a rubbish bin with a daily working pick up - I would spend the money immediatly. There are places around the town where you even can't find a central place for the rubbish. Hurghada needs a general well working system & an awareness campaign for the people living here!

Why only a cleaner and healthier Hadaba? The problem exists everywhere! The town needs rubbish bins and not useless mosaicked vases that you now find all over Hurghada.

It’s nice that Hepca is trying to clean a bit. But as long as the people have not understood that waste in front of houses can cause epidemic plagues they will enjoy throwing the waste out of the windows. The government should cope with this task.

Thank you for cleaning the left side of the road up to the German Consulate ...unfortunately after less than one week the situation is going to be the same as before the cleaning!!! every day a lot of small tracks/pick ups leave AGAIN there their rubbish!!!!!!! :-((

Jean, thanks for your comment and as a long time resident of Hurghada I also hope to see a future clear of rubbish. But I have to point out that the residents (both local and foreign) need first to have an infrastructure which will support a garbage free town. If there is no garbage collection or even bins, then it's difficult to know where to put your rubbish! Thankfully; this is changing, and with the help of some associations like HEPCA the systems required to "clean up" are being put into action.

I am a regular English visitor and I am so sorry to see all the rubbish in the back streets of Hurghada. It is such a fantastic place to be but spoilt by the lack of care by your residents. Come on people don't throw your garbage in the street, put it in a bin or take it home and make Hurghada a place to be proud of so that visitors will want to come back every time. It means more money for you when we stay with you so it is in your best interests to make it a pleasant place. There are many other countries we could visit and spend our money - it is up to you! Your new Marina is a credit to the city - make me love Hurghada even more.
